1920s-1930s The Curved Horn Speaker Exhibition Room 7 is dedicated to the memory of the late Choi Bong-sik whose collection was instrumental in the founding of this museum. This room features speakers used for the first film with sound. The first sound you'll hear in this exhibition room comes from the monitor speakers located in the projection booth. In the early days of sound films, the noise from projectors and other machinery in the booth made it difficult to hear the sound directly from the screen. To address this, monitor speakers were installed inside the projection booth to check whether the sound coming from the screen was in sync with the images. We will begin by listening to sound through these monitor speakers, then compare this experience with sound played through the 12-A and 13-A systems. All four types of speakers displayed on this floor share a key similarity: They use the same speaker driver units, which serve as the starting point of sound production. However, the horns, which play a crucial role in shaping the sound, differ in both shape and material. This variation in horn design results in differences in sound quality. The final song you'll hear is Yesterday by The Beatles. This track was selected because it allows you to clearly experience and distinguish the five instruments, including the guitar and string quartet, which are not as easily discerned.
